One of the top features of the Mitsubishi Shogun is its centre differential lock, while the model can also boast a low range transfer box for extreme conditions. The Shogun – also sold under the name Pajero or Montero in some territories – has also come equipped with a Rockford acoustic soundsystem since 2010, while the 2015 version includes additional sound deadening material. Mitsubishi’s 3.2-litre four-cylinder diesel has been revised, with power up to 197bhp and torque rising to 325lb ft. It’ll haul the Shogun at a passable lick - 11 seconds to 62mph - but it won’t do it with much enthusiasm. It will, however, enthusiastically pull large things out of bogs, as it’s capable of hauling a mighty 3,500kgs. The more expensive Toyota Land Cruiser will tow a pitiful 2,800kgs. It comes in $58000.
12) MERCEDES-BENZ M-CLASS 4×4:
Mercedes-Benz may not be a brand you’d immediately associate with SUVs, but with the new M-Class they’ve won legions of new fans and proved they’re more than competent at producing vehicles ready for off-road rambling.

13) BENTLEY BENTAYGA SUV:
Bentley has long been a British motoring icon, and its upcoming Bentayga model – named after a mountain range in Gran Canaria – will certainly bring a touch of old-school refinement to off-roading when it lands in late 2015. A choice between a V8, W12 and plug-in hybrid engine is available for the lucky driver. The arrival of the Bentyga is sure to be one of 2015’s big motoring moments, and the automobile is expected to come with a price tag of around $219,000.
